The rapid development of the Biomedical Sciences, in the last thirty (30) years, has made mandatory the continuous and in-depth Lifelong Learning and Training, based on the modern and newest knowledge of the Biotechnological Revolution, in the Health Sector.
The Master’s Program (MSc) entitled “Biomedical Methods and Technology in Diagnosis”, of the University of Western Attica (former Technological Educational Institute – TEI of Athens) was founded in 2015 and came to cover this immense educational need.
Its successful implementation was made following a proposal by the members of the Teaching and Research Staff (Faculty) of the former Section 2 of “Cells and Reaction” Courses (2014: Director, Assistant Professor Mr. Anastasios Kriebardis) and was approved by the General Assembly (GA) of Department of Medical Laboratories (now Department of Biomedical Sciences), under the Chairmanship of Professor George-Albert Karikas in 2015 (official Gazette of the Greek Government 741/t.B’/ 29-04-2015).
The first Director of Program was Professor George – Albert Karikas (2015-2017). After his retirement, the Directorship of the Program was taken over by the former Rector of the TEI of Athens, Professor Maria Venetikou (2018-2020) with Deputy Director, the President of the former Department of Medical Laboratories, Professor Frangiski Anthouli – Anagnostopoulou. During that period, in accordance with the current legislation, the Program was re-established (official Gazette of the Greek Government 3306/t.B’/10-08-2018).
From the Academic Year 2020-2021, the Associate Professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Mr. Anastasios Kriebardis, took over as Director of the Postgraduate Studies Program, with the Deputy Director of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Professor Ms. Efstathia Papageorgiou.
