Angelo D’Alessandro, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, CU Anschutz. He is the founder and Director of the Metabolomics Core at CU Anschutz and the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Shared Resource of the University of Colorado Cancer Center. His research focuses on the application of omics technologies—particularly metabolomics and proteomics—to study systemic responses to acute and chronic hypoxia and other physiological stressors. His work covers a broad range of topics, including cancer metabolism, red blood cell biology, hemorrhagic shock, ischemia/reperfusion injury, sickle cell disease, aging, inflammation, mammalian hibernation, and pulmonary hypertension. Dr. D’Alessandro earned his PhD at Tuscia University (Italy), under the auspices of the Italian National Blood Center. He pursued postdoctoral training in Germany (Bruker Daltonics, Bremen), Scotland (Beatson Institute, Glasgow), and the United States (University of Colorado Denver, Aurora). He has also founded companies such as Omix Technologies Inc. and Altis Biosciences LLC, and serves in advisory roles for biotechnology firms. In addition to his international academic and entrepreneurial activities, Dr. D’Alessandro is a member of the Advisory Board of the postgraduate program “Biomedical Methods and Diagnostic Technology” and an alumnus of the same program, with a focus on diagnostic methods and advanced technologies.
