Dr. Fortis holds a master’s degree in “Applications of Biology in Medicine” from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece (2015) and is a biologist (2012-Integrated Master-Department of Biological Applications and Technologies, University of Ioannina, Greece). The Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens awarded him a PhD (2018).
He has conducted post-doctoral research at the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Center “Saint Savas” Cancer Hospital, the University of West Attica’s Laboratory of Reliability and Quality Control in Laboratory Hematology, and the Institute of Pathology at the Hospital of the CHUV (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois) in Lausanne, Switzerland, from April 2018 until the present.
His research was oriented, from the first time, around (a) Cancer Immunology and (b) the discovery of novel biomarkers in cancer and diseases. He has participated in research programs related to various types of cancer, such as breast, prostate, head and neck, lung, and melanoma. Dr. Fortis has received scholarships during his studies and has presented his work at 43 national and 42 international conferences, many of which have received travel awards. He has been selected and has attended several Summer & Winter Schools, as well as courses related to Cancer Immunotherapy and Hematology in Greece and abroad. He has been awarded at Greek and European conferences. His research and review papers (42) have been published in international scientific peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he is reviewer for several scientific journals and has also been guest editor for special issues of journals. Dr. Fortis has given speeches as an invited speaker at conferences and workshops in Greece and abroad. From the academic year 2022-2023 Dr. Fortis is academic scholar in the Department of Biomedical Sciences teaching the undergraduate courses, Hematology I, Hematology II, Special Chapters of Laboratory Hematology and Transfusion Therapy – Histocompatibility. Moreover, he is teaching postgraduate courses in the following M.Sc. programs: 1.
