Panagiotis Mallis, MSc, PhD graduated from the Department of Medical Laboratories of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in 2010. In 2013, he received his Master’s degree in Molecular Medicine from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2018, he completed his PhD in Regenerative Medicine with first-class honors.
He currently serves as GMP Laboratory Supervisor at the Hellenic Cord Blood Bank (HCBB) of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. His responsibilities include the processing and quality control of cord blood-derived hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions. Over the past years, he has developed significant expertise in flow cytometry and in Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing using next-generation sequencing (NGS).
Dr. Mallis is actively engaged in research focused on the regenerative and immunomodulatory properties of MSCs, the fundamental biology of HSCs with the aim of enhancing their properties, and the evaluation and standardization of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) production methods. He is also responsible for training and supervising new personnel as well as students conducting internships or thesis projects at HCBB.
He has authored more than 40 scientific publications indexed in PubMed, and is involved in grant proposal preparation, AI-driven data analysis, and scientific writing. Dr. Mallis is a member of several scientific societies, including the Hellenic Society of Immunology (HSI), the Young European Federation of Immunological Societies (yEFIS), and the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI), among others.
