I obtained a Medical Degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete, Greece in 2004. After graduation, I focused on research, and I was enrolled in the graduate program “Molecular Basis of Human Disease” to obtain a deeper knowledge of the molecular mechanisms that contribute to the pathogenesis of diseases. I did the experimental work for my M.Sc. thesis at UT Southwestern Medical Centre at Dallas, USA, and my Ph.D. project in Manchester, UK where I trained in molecular physiology focusing on enteroendocrine cells and performing a molecular characterization of duodenal cholecystokinin expressing cells. After completing my Ph.D. work, I worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Umeå University, Sweden and my research focused on the role of hyperinsulinemia in the development of metabolic syndrome and on the characterization of prostate neuroendocrine cells. After a long full-time engagement in research, I started my clinical training in histopathology at the Department of Pathology in Evangelismos General Hospital, Athens, Greece. I continued my training with a 2-month rotation focusing on gynaecological and liver pathology and a mandatory final-year rotation in gynaecologic and non-gynaecologic cytopathology (Departments of Pathology and Cytopathology, Aretaieio University Hospital, Athens, Greece). I finished my training and passed the histopathology certification exams in May 2023, and I was awarded the title of Specialist in Histopathology in June 2023.
