Ioannis Trougakos, PhD is a Biologist and holds a PhD in Cellular and Developmental Biology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He has worked as a scientific collaborator at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, Germany, and at the Centro de Biología Molecular “Severo Ochoa” (CBM), Madrid, Spain, and has been a visiting researcher at EMBL (gene microarrays) and the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI‑AVL), focusing on protein purification and crystallography. Dr. Trougakos was a Researcher D’ at the Institute of Biology, National Hellenic Research Foundation (IBE/EIE) and he is Professor of Animal Cell Biology & Electron Microscopy in the Department of Biology at NKUA. He has participated in international training programs (EMBO, FEBS), was a postdoctoral fellow of the EU “Training and Mobility of Researchers” program and the State Scholarships Foundation, and has been invited as a speaker at Greek and international universities and conferences. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses at NKUA, is a member of multiple scientific societies, participates in national and international research projects, and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for international journals including Journal of Ageing Research and Biogerontology. Dr. Trougakos has been involved in European programs such as Link-Age and COST actions, and invited to expert panels of the EU program “WhyWeAge – A Road Map for Molecular Biogerontology.” His research group is funded by competitive national and European grants, and he has published extensively, authored monographs and a textbook on Cellular Biology, and holds patents. In addition to his research and teaching activities, Dr. Trougakos is a member of the Advisory Board of the postgraduate program “Biomedical Methods and Diagnostic Technology” and an alumnus of the same program, with a focus on diagnostic methods and advanced technologies.
