Dr. Maria E. Tsoumani is a Biologist holding an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry and Microbial Biotechnology and a PhD in Biochemistry – Clinical Chemistry from the University of Ioannina (with distinction). During her postgraduate and doctoral studies, she specialized in the investigation of biochemical and clinical markers, acquiring a solid theoretical and laboratory background. She subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2017–2022), focusing on Cardiovascular Pharmacology and the exploitation of natural products to study their pharmacological properties, in collaboration with Greek and international research groups (DAAD, COST). Her professional experience combines extensive teaching and research activities. As an Academic Fellow and Laboratory Associate at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (formerly the Department of Medical Laboratories) of the University of West Attica (2018–2023), she taught undergraduate laboratory courses in Parasitology, Immunology, and Clinical Chemistry. At the same time, she contributed to theoretical teaching and supervised undergraduate theses, strengthening the laboratory orientation and research skills of students. Her research activity includes 46 publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals (h-index: 22, >1,300 citations), 7 publications in Greek journals, authorship of 2 book chapters (including 1 monograph), as well as 65 presentations at national and
international conferences. She has delivered 4 invited lectures and has received 5 awards for scientific presentations, as well as a best publication award. Dr. Tsoumani has received scholarships from the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society and the DAAD (Germany). She holds certification for animal experimentation (Functions A–D), is certified in Special Education and Training, and is fluent in English and French. She is an active member of several Greek and international scientific societies, with continuous participation in research and academic networks.
